In the last seventy years many technological advancements have occurred in the prestressed concrete tank industry. One of the most critical improvements over the years has been machine application of tensioned seven-wire galvanized strand for circumferential prestressing.

Continuous electronic recording and instantaneous force application correction are essential to ensure the proper stress is applied to the prestressing materials. Over-stressing, although not altering its appearance, can result in stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement of the prestressing material. Under-stressing will make the tank prone to cracking and leakage.
